Raising the Standard for Instructor Training
PLEASE NOTE: The following is subject to change. We are finding the right approach and open to feedback. But change starts with the first step!
If you’ve been in the driver training world long enough, you’ll know the current system for approving driving instructor trainers isn’t exactly… inspiring. ORDIT has been around for years, but it’s voluntary, outdated, and heavily focused on tests rather than teaching.
And anyone can train you to be an ADI. They don’t even have to be an ADI.
That’s how we end up with sausage-machine of PDIs. Sold the dream, pushed through minimum training, handed the bill, and left to sink or swim. Many don’t make it.
We believe that is unacceptable.
ROADIT is the modern alternative.
Not DVSA-run. Not box-ticking.
Peer-led. Standards-focused. Trainer-supporting.
Why ROADIT?
The DVSA has no authority over schools or trainers – only ADIs and PDIs. And with their backlog, ORDIT simply isn’t a priority. That leaves the door open for low-standard, high-profit training companies to keep churning out underprepared PDIs.
ROADIT is here to change that.
We’re setting clear, modern standards.
We’re building a community where trainers help each other get better.
And we’re making sure PDIs get the quality training they deserve – not the cheapest deal someone could get away with.
What Makes Us Different
We’re not here to replace ORDIT with another lifeless list.
We’re here to set a bar that actually means something.
- Grade-A focus – Full Members are Grade A ADIs with 4+ years’ experience.
- Teaching qualification – PTTLLS, EAT, QTS… whatever it is it needs to be recognised and valid.
- Mentoring pathway – Grade B trainers can join as Trainee Members and work towards Grade A with support from existing members.
- Ongoing development – 26+ hours of CPD per year, with recognised courses counting for the whole year.
- Engagement – Six webinars a year, attending four as a minimum to stay on the register.
- Transparency – Membership fees include a PR and marketing budget spent to build credibility for all members.
This isn’t a “pay your fee, get your badge, never hear from us again” scheme.
If you want that, stay where you are.
How Membership Works (coming soon & to be confirmed)
Two clear pathways:
Full Member
Grade A. 4+ years as an ADI. Teaching qualification.
You’ve been around long enough to know what works – and you’re ready to share it. This doesn’t mean you can’t improve and we want to help you do that.
Trainee Member (working title)
Grade A or B. 2+ years as an ADI.
You get a year to reach Grade A, with targeted CPD and mentoring from Full Members to help you get there. And a further year to complete a teaching qualification
Either way, you commit to:
- A Code of Conduct.
- CPD that actually improves your skills.
- Being part of a trainer community that raises standards rather than lowering them.
The ROADIT Promise
You’ll get:
- Recognition that actually means something.
- Support from trainers who’ve been there, done it, and still care enough to help you do it too.
- A community that knows good training changes lives – and careers.
We’ll get:
- Members who uphold the badge.
- Proof that modern, peer-led standards work.
- A reason to tell the industry: “This is how it should be done.”

Backed by the DITC
The Driving Instructor and Trainers Collective has been connecting, supporting, and giving a voice to ADIs and PDIs for years.
ROADIT is part of that mission – a member-led standard that puts quality ahead of quotas.
This isn’t about being on a list. It’s about being worth finding.
